    Enzymic formation of (R)-reticuline from 1,2-dehydroreticuline in the opium poppy plant[Reference: WebLink]
    A cytosolic NADPH2 dependent enzyme which reduces stereospecifically 1,2-dehydroreticuline to yield (R)-reticuline, the biosynthetic precursor of the morphinan alkaloids, has been discovered, purified to homogeneity, and characterized from seedlings.
