    Description: Supinine, lasiocarpine-N-oxide and Europine N-oxide exhibit virucidal activity to Poliomyelitis, Coxsackie, Semliki forest, Vesicular stomatitis and Herpes simplex at the concentration of 5, 10 and 20 mu g/ml respectively.

    Antineoplastic and antiviral activities of pyrrolizidine alkaloids from Heliotropium marifolium Koen. ex Retz[Reference: WebLink]

    METHODS AND RESULTS:
    From Heliotropium marifolium roots, five pyrrolizidine alkaloids were isolated, characterized by means of their spectral data and/or co-tlc. Except lasiocarpine-N-oxide, the other alkaloids were reported first time from this plant species. The estimation studies revealed that, the heliotrine-N-oxide was major alkaloid both in vivo and in vitro. Among isolated compounds, lasiocarpine-N-oxide demonstrated maximum antineoplastic activity (65.2%) at the concentration of 10 mu g/ kg/day and cytotoxic (36.4%) effects at the concentration of 10 mu g/ml.
    CONCLUSIONS:
    Supinine, lasiocarpine-N-oxide and europine-N-oxide exhibited virucidal activity to Poliomyelitis, Coxsackie, Semliki forest, Vesicular stomatitis and Herpes simplex at the concentration of 5, 10 and 20 mu g/ml respectively.
